Original Hempstead founded in 1991, by Chris Boucher a pioneer in the hemp industry.  He was the first person to grow industrial hemp in the United States at the USDA research Center in Brawley, CA in 1994.   Hempstead is one of the original founders of the Hemp Industry Association, HIA also the Navajo Hemp Project and currently an advisor for the New Mexico Hemp Council 2008-2009.
